National Novel Writing Month

Two more days and the race begins. NaNoWriMo, National Novel Writing Month begins and I’ve committed to writing 50k words by 11/30. I’ll be working on my next novel: Inventing Beauty.

This story is a stretch for me. I’m combining history with a steampunk twist. The story takes place in the winter of 1832 in my beloved England.  This was the year of the huge Reform Act and the closest England came to revolution, according to some critics.  My characters are married, but not together.  The story pulls them together as they try to save England from revolution.

I’ve got the plot mostly done and three chapters drafted.  I’ve been reading Dwight Swain’s book and Donald Maass to help the craft part of it.  My main characters are quirky and flawed, but only in the best sense. It has been fun to write so far.  We will see what the month brings.

So are you participating in NaNoWriMo?  What are you working on?
